The present Tunnock factory is a modern building of approximately 200,000 square feet and is situated not more than 100 yards from the original site on which Thomas Tunnock opened his first bakers shop and tearoom at Lorne Place, Bellshill Road, Uddingston in 1890
Biscuit production occupies three floors of the factory which is now equipped with some of the most up-to-date wafer making, chocolate enrobing and wrapping machinery available.
The factory at Uddingston, employing 650 people, produces all the components used to manufacture the famous products - wafers, caramel, biscuits and marshmallow. Even the milk chocolate, which gives Tunnock products their rich creamy flavour, is made under close supervision using only quality ingredients.
Exports too have taken off with regular shipments made worldwide to such places as Saudi Arabia, Japan, U.S.A and all around the Caribbean.
